Breakthrough

The story is set in Slautis, a small (fictional) European country that escaped a subtly engineered coup a year ago. The country slowly recovers from this event, but suffers another blow when a natural disaster occurs in the north in the form of hefty floods.

The second volume in the Slautis story series gives a glimpse into the opaque world of soccer transfers and shows the greed of already very wealthy and influential individuals.

About the book

One of the main characters, Lado Vantaggio, is interviewed by a journalist, Nikita Silnyslot, following the failed coup a year ago. A professional click develops between the two. After the interview, which dealt primarily with how Lado had processed the events of a year ago, Lado is invited to write a column for the national daily newspaper. In addition, Nikita and Lado engage in some strange events in the soccer world, eventually writing a series of articles about them. Gradually it becomes clear to them that something is seriously wrong with quite a few soccer transfers. What exactly is going on, they unravel with the help of a number of insiders in the soccer world, including the soccer expert of their newspaper’s competitor.

In parallel, little by little the consequences of the natural disaster of a year ago become clear. Thousands of homes and factories were destroyed in the process and the country will have to make a huge financial effort to repair it all. The devastating flooding in the northern provinces is drawing the attention of the country’s security forces. Elvira Urso, one of the service’s experienced employees, is asked to conduct an investigation into the cause of the floods.
